Alexandra Sims, Ph.D. is a licensed psychologist in the state of Louisiana. She is also credentialed by the National Register of Health Service Psychologists. Dr. Sims specializes in educational and psychological assessment of children and adolescents. Her expertise lies in the diagnosis of ADHD, learning disorders, anxiety disorders, and stress and trauma-related reactions in children. Dr. Sims is particularly adept in integrating information from multiple sources, including families, schools, and children themselves, in order to reveal areas of both strengths and need. Dr. Sims is knowledgeable in bridging assessment to meaningful intervention, providing families with insight into how to best support their children through the completion of clear and thorough written reports.

Dr. Sims earned a master’s degree from New York University before pursuing her Ph.D. from Tulane University. While a student at Tulane, Dr. Sims was active in research, presenting original and collaborative research at local and national conferences. Dr. Sims graduated from Tulane with a specialization in trauma-focused school psychology, having undergone extensive training on both the effect of trauma on children’s functioning as well as evidence-based treatments aimed at combatting traumatic reactions. Dr. Sims completed her predoctoral internship at the Louisiana School Psychology Internship Consortium. She has worked at several local elementary and secondary schools locally, and served as the Director of Pupil Appraisal and Evaluation at Collegiate Academies for three years.  

Currently, Dr. Sims continues to work with local schools on the completion of compliant school-based evaluations directed toward the delivery of special education services. Dr. Sims is a full-time faculty member within the Department of Psychology at Tulane University, teaching courses centering on child development, psychopathology, and assessment. She is responsible for training first-year doctoral students in their mastery of cognitive and academic assessment. Dr. Sims also provides professional supervision for post-doctorate professionals seeking licensure. At Atlas Psychiatry, Dr. Sims provides assessment services for children and adolescents, including psychological testing, psycho-educational testing, gifted testing, and school admissions testing.
